Brief Profile of Dr. M. A. Khan


Dr. M. A. Khan
is a reputed International level scientist. He is a graduate in Agrl. Engg., M. E. in Water Resources and Irrigation Engineering and Ph.D. in Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering with brilliant academic record. He started his career in 1971 as Assistant Professor with Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, Jabalpur (M.P.) He joined Indian Council of Agriculture Research in April 1979 as Scientist S-2 (Soil & Water Cons. Engg.) and was posted in CAZRI, Jodhpur. In October 1979 he was deputed as an Expert to work with Africa’s most prestigious irrigation project, Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority, Government of Nigeria where he worked up to April 1986. At CAZRI he has worked in different capacities such as Senior Scientist, Principal Scientist and Head of Division and Director Incharge . He received advance training in Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Water Resources Engineering at National Institute of Environmental Studies, Tsukuba, Japan. He has coordinated visits of several high level foreign as well as Indian dignitaries and delegations, and training courses to foreign experts.

Dr. Khan posses wide experience in research, teaching,transfer of technology and administration. He has specialized in the field of hydrology, water resources and Irrigation engineering, Remote Sensing and GIS and integrated water management and watershed management. He has worked as Project Coordinator, Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission, Government of India. Earlier he has worked as Coordinator, DDP/TOT Programme on Watershed Management. Recently, Dr. Khan was nominated as one of the two member’s High Level Expert Committee of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to visit African country Niger and prepare feasibility report for cooperation between India and Niger. During his visit of Niger (15-30 June, 2006) he was guest of Hon’ble President of Niger, His Excellency Mr. Mammadu Tanja.

Dr. Khan is a widely travelled scientist and has long International exposer. He has visited several African and Middle East Countries, Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, U.K. France, Germany and Netherlands. Dr. Khan has published more than 230 research papers in International and National Journals, Books and Bulletins. He is member of several International and National Professional Societies. He is also member of Research Advisory Committees of several National and International Research Institutions, Universities, State Govt. Ministries/Departments Central Government Ministries (Ministries of Water Resources, Science and Technology, Rural Development, and Environment and Forest), and Voluntary Organizations. As Principal Investigator, he has handled several foreign added and other externally funded R&D projects. Dr. Khan has received several awards of high repute for his outstanding contributions in the field of science.
